So its finally official ... those of us who aspire to Australian citizenship must now pass a written test of Australianess. A pass mark of 12 out of 20 questions will be required to be granted citizenship it was announced yesterday. A question bank of 200 will be available for study in a government issued 42-page booklet. Not too tough for us Indians, used as we are to studying by rote for all manner of admissions. The test will be cumpolsorily in English is purpotely aimed at preserving Australia's social cohesion and ensuring all potential citizens embrace Australian values. Reactions have been varied in the media with some ethnic groups slamming the move terming it a measure to filter out certain ethnicities.
